Since 2010, Marty Cooperman consults with accounting firms and other organizations in the areas of overall strategy development/execution, driving growth/ profitability, new business development, brand development, client loyalty/retention, quality, leadership development and financial results.
Marty joined Grant in 1975 and became a partner in 1986. For his first 25 years with Grant, Marty’s focus was on client service, serving some of Grant’s largest and most prestigious clients.
In 1999, Marty was appointed Managing Partner of Grant’s New York office, and in 2003 he was promoted to Northeast Region Managing Partner a role he served in until his retirement in 2010. Marty also served as a member of Grant’s Senior Leadership Team during this time, helping to develop the firm-wide strategies and tactics that doubled the size of the firm. Marty was also elected to Grant Thornton’s Partnership Board.
As Northeast Region Managing Partner, Marty drove the growth and profitability of the region which included New York, Boston and Philadelphia, doubling the size of the region. In addition, under Marty’s leadership, the Northeast Region became the largest and most profitable region in the firm.
In addition, to his regional responsibilities, Marty also led or participated in several firm-wide committees and initiatives including the Client Experience Council (Chair), Senior Associate Advisory Council (Chair), Risk Management Committee, Knowledge Sharing Steering Committee and Best Practices Task Force (Co-Chair). Marty was also a National Industry Leader for Grant’s Manufacturing/Distribution practice.
Some of Marty’s other accomplishments include his being honored as the recipient of the UJA Accountant of the Year, and the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. Marty was Chair of the NYSSCPA Large/Medium Size Firm Practice Management Committee and is a member of the AICPA.
Marty is a graduate of New York University College of Arts and Sciences and New York University Stern School of Business.
