I love this article about habits you can learn from toddlers.
My favorite is number four – always be curious and learning.
So often, I find leaders who have lost their curiosity. This brings with it the other “grown up” habits that halt growth and limit innovation.
When the leader is no longer open to learning new things, it has a negative impact on the entire organization. As the saying goes, “if you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got.” And when what you’ve always got is stagnation, ruts and no measurable movement, what, exactly is the point? Being open to new ideas, new ways of doing old things, and allowing ideas to come forward from others (cooperation, which wasn’t on the list, is natural in toddlers) assures vibrancy and continued growth – both of the business, and the people who work in it.
If we can learn from toddlers then we can learn from everyone. Be open minded.
Which toddler trait do you emulate most often, still? Or are you all growed up?
